How does HIPS compare to foamed PVC for signage?

HIPS is denser, has a smoother face, and is significantly cheaper per square metre than foamed PVC for large area work. Foamed PVC is lighter and a little easier to handle on big panels. For most short to medium-term signage, HIPS is hard to beat on price.

Is HIPS the right material for thermoforming and packaging?

Yes, HIPS is one of the most thermoformable sheet plastics around and is the material behind huge volumes of food packaging, point-of-sale risers, and tray inserts. We cut HIPS to size as blanks for thermoformers and packaging fabricators across the country.

Can HIPS be used outdoors?

HIPS is mostly an indoor material. Standard HIPS yellows and gets brittle in prolonged UV exposure, so for outdoor signage we generally recommend ACP or UV-stable foamed PVC instead. There are UV-stable HIPS grades but they are less common.
