What types of timber can you laser cut?

We laser cut MDF and natural timber veneers up to around 6mm thick. We avoid treated, oily, or PVC-faced timbers as the smoke from those materials damages the laser optics.

Will laser cut timber have burn marks on the edges?

There is always some edge char on timber, which many designers actually use as a feature. We mask the surface with low-tack tape on detailed jobs to keep the face clean, and pick the lowest power setting that still cuts through. If you want a fully clean edge, a light sand after cutting removes most of the residue.

Can you engrave and cut a timber piece in one job?

Yes, the laser switches between engraving and cutting in the same file, so logos, text, or decorative patterns are completed before the piece is cut free from the sheet. This is the standard approach for things like timber tags, ornaments, and architectural model components.
