How do you tell if a tank is worth repairing?

We look at the size and location of the damage, the overall condition of the tank, and what it holds. Cracks in good condition material away from heavily stressed areas almost always repair well. Tanks that have gone brittle from UV or chemical attack across the whole shell are usually past saving.

Can large rural and farm water tanks be welded on site?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on-site repair is often the only practical option for large rural tanks. We bring the welding gear, generator, and rod stock to the site, drain and clean the area to be welded, and complete the repair without needing to move the tank. This is much cheaper than replacement.

Will the repaired tank hold the same product it had before?

Accepted Answer

In most cases yes, because the weld restores the original material rather than adding a different layer over the top. We just need to know the product the tank holds (especially chemicals) so we select matching welding rod. After repair the tank is leak-tested before being put back into service.
