Can you cut a window into an existing tank or enclosure?

Accepted Answer

Yes, adding a window, vent, or access port to an existing plastic tank or cabinet is a common modification. We mark out, cut cleanly, fit the new feature, and weld or bond the join so the original part stays leak-tight or structurally sound. This is much cheaper than replacing the whole item.

Will modifications affect any structural integrity?

Accepted Answer

Done properly, no. We assess where load and stress sit in the original part before cutting, and reinforce around new openings if needed. If a proposed modification would compromise the part too far, we will say so and suggest an alternative approach rather than push ahead.

Do I need to bring the part in or can you work on site?

Accepted Answer

For most modifications we prefer to work in the Moonah workshop because the lighting, tooling, and dust control are right. For fixed installations such as tanks, ducting, and large enclosures we can come to you within the Hobart area to carry out the work in place.
