Polycarbonate Roofing

Polycarbonate Roofing
Our twinwall polycarbonate roofing is a strong, lightweight and insulating sheet designed for outdoor structures, skylight areas and weather protected spaces. It is flat on both sides with a fluted internal structure running through the core, which is what gives it the combination people want from polycarbonate roofing sheets: real thermal insulation, high impact resistance and good light transmission, all in a sheet light enough to lift into place by hand.
Twinwall or corrugated
Most people searching for corrugated polycarbonate roofing or laserlite style sheeting are thinking of the profiled product that matches corrugated iron. Twinwall is different. Because it is flat on both faces with insulating flutes in between, it spans neatly on a flat or low pitch frame, gives a cleaner modern appearance, and insulates considerably better than a single skin corrugated sheet. If you want clear roofing sheets over a deck or patio that will not turn the space into an oven, twinwall is generally the better performer.
Where it is used
- Deck roofing and patio covers
- Pergolas and shade structures
- Carports and walkway covers
- Greenhouses and hothouse lining
- Skylights and roof light panels
- Shelters, awnings and verandah infills
- Sheds and outbuilding roof lights
Why polycarbonate for roofing
- Impact resistant, so it stands up to hail and falling branches
- UV stabilised for long term outdoor exposure
- Lightweight, which simplifies framing and installation
- Insulating twinwall core reduces heat transfer compared with single skin sheeting
- Maintains clarity and structural strength in harsh weather
- Cuts cleanly with a fine tooth blade on site
Colours and light transmission
Available in grey, clear, bronze, opal and platinum, so you can tune the balance between light and shade for your space.
- Clear gives maximum light, best for greenhouses and dim areas that need brightening
- Opal diffuses light evenly and softens glare while staying bright
- Grey and bronze cut light and heat noticeably, good for north facing decks and outdoor living areas
- Platinum offers a modern neutral appearance with moderate light reduction
Widths and cut to length
- Available in 700mm width and 1050mm width
- Flat both sides with insulating flutes through the core
- Sheets can be cut to length
To order cut to length, leave a note with your order telling us what length you need each sheet cut to. Extra charges may apply. Measure your rafter spacing before ordering so you can work out how many sheets of each width you need and where the joins will fall.
Installation notes
Run the flutes down the slope so any condensation inside the sheet can drain out rather than pooling. Seal the top end and tape the bottom end with a breathable tape so dust and insects stay out while moisture can escape. Use purpose made polycarbonate fixings with sealing washers, and drill the fixing holes slightly oversize to allow for thermal expansion.
Ordering from Associated Plastics
Associated Plastics has been supplying Tasmanian builders, landscapers and homeowners since 1979, and we deliver Australia-wide. We hold twinwall polycarbonate in stock in Hobart and cut it to your lengths before it ships, which saves you wrestling with a full length sheet on site. If you are unsure which colour or width suits your structure, tell us the span, the orientation and what the space is used for and we will make a recommendation.
