Corflute – Lightweight, Durable Corrugated Plastic Sheet

Corflute (corrugated polypropylene) is Australia’s most popular material for temporary signage, protective packaging, and lightweight construction applications. Associated Plastics Tasmania supplies corflute sheet in a range of thicknesses and colours with full cut-to-size capabilities.

What Is Corflute?

Corflute is a twin-wall corrugated polypropylene sheet – essentially a plastic version of corrugated cardboard. Its fluted internal structure provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio while remaining completely waterproof and recyclable. The name “Corflute” is actually a brand name that has become the generic term for this type of material in Australia.

Properties and Benefits

Lightweight yet Strong

The corrugated structure of corflute provides surprising rigidity for its weight. A standard 3mm corflute sheet weighs just 550g per square metre, making it easy to handle, transport, and install.

Waterproof

Polypropylene is naturally waterproof, meaning corflute will not absorb moisture, swell, or degrade when exposed to rain, humidity, or water. This makes it suitable for outdoor applications in all weather conditions.

Chemical Resistant

Corflute resists most common chemicals, cleaning agents, and solvents, making it useful for industrial and agricultural applications.

Recyclable

Polypropylene is fully recyclable (code 5), making corflute an environmentally responsible choice for temporary applications where the material can be recycled after use.

Printable

The smooth surface of corflute accepts screen printing and digital printing well, making it the standard substrate for printed signs, real estate boards, and promotional materials.

Available Options

We stock corflute in the following thicknesses: 3mm (most common for signage), 5mm (for larger signs and increased rigidity), and heavier grades for packaging and protection. Standard sheet sizes are 2440 x 1220mm. Common colours include white, black, yellow, red, blue, and green.

Common Applications

Real Estate Signs

Corflute is the standard material for real estate “For Sale” and “Open Home” signs across Tasmania and Australia. Printed corflute signs are weather resistant, lightweight, and cost-effective to produce in volume.

Construction Site Signage

Safety signs, directional signage, and site identification boards on construction sites are commonly printed on corflute. Its durability and water resistance make it ideal for the construction environment.

Political and Event Signage

Election signs, event directional signs, and temporary promotional signage are all commonly produced on corflute due to its low cost, light weight, and ease of installation with stakes or cable ties.

Surface Protection

Corflute is widely used to protect floors, benchtops, windows, and other surfaces during construction, renovation, and moving. It provides impact protection while being easy to cut, tape, and remove.

Packaging and Transit Protection

Custom-cut corflute is used for packaging inserts, dividers, and reusable transit packaging. Its lightweight strength and water resistance make it superior to cardboard for repeated-use packaging.

Agricultural Uses

Corflute is used in agriculture for tree guards, plant labels, hive components, and temporary barriers. Its UV-stable grades can last several seasons outdoors.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does corflute last outdoors?

Standard corflute will last 6-12 months in direct sunlight. UV-stabilised grades can last 2-3 years or more. For permanent outdoor signage, we recommend alternative materials such as aluminium composite panel or foam PVC.

Can corflute be recycled?

Yes. Corflute is made from polypropylene (recycling code 5) and is accepted by most recycling facilities. After use for temporary signage or protection, it can be recycled rather than sent to landfill.

What thickness corflute do I need?

For standard signage (A-frames, real estate signs, small directional signs), 3mm corflute is the standard choice. For larger signs or applications requiring extra rigidity, 5mm provides significantly more stiffness. Our team can advise on the best option.

Do you print on corflute?

We supply corflute sheet ready for printing but do not offer printing services directly. We work with sign writers and printers across Tasmania who can produce printed corflute signs. We can also cut pre-printed corflute to final size.
