Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard rolls and cardboard sheet for wrapping, layer packing and surface protection. Cut to size, stocked in Hobart, shipped Australia-wide.

Cardboard sheet and corrugated cardboard on the roll are the quiet workhorses of any packing bench. Rather than a made-up box, these are flat materials you cut, wrap and layer to suit whatever is in front of you: wrapping awkward shapes that no carton fits, separating layers of product inside a larger carton, protecting benchtops and floors during a fit-out, interleaving glass and finished panels, and packing artwork and framed pieces for transport. Associated Plastics stocks corrugated cardboard in both roll and flat sheet form and cuts sheet to size on request, so you are not trimming down oversized stock and wasting half of it. Everything is held in our Hobart warehouse and shipped Australia-wide. Corrugated board is recyclable and, unlike most plastic protection, goes straight into standard kerbside and commercial paper streams once the job is finished, which is why a lot of our packing customers have moved back to it. The guide below covers roll versus sheet, flute direction, and how to get the most protection out of the least material.

Roll or sheet: which format suits your job

Corrugated roll is the better buy where you are wrapping continuously and cutting to length as you go: pallet wrapping, furniture and appliance protection, protecting long or irregular items, and running a packing bench where item sizes vary all day. Flat cardboard sheet is better where you need a consistent, repeatable piece: layer pads between rows of product in a carton, base stiffeners, backing boards for framed prints, and surface protection panels. If your packing station handles a mix, most customers keep a roll for wrapping and a stack of sheet for layer pads.

Flute direction and why it matters

Corrugated board is far stiffer across the flutes than along them, and it folds cleanly along the flute direction. For layer pads and stiffeners, orient the flutes across the span you need to support so the pad does not sag under load. For wrapping, run the flutes around the item so the board curves easily rather than fighting you and cracking the liner. A single corrugated layer gives useful cushioning against knocks and abrasion, and two wraps roughly double that without adding much cost.

Cut to size cardboard sheet

We cut cardboard sheet to your dimensions, which removes the waste and labour of trimming down oversized stock on site. That is worth doing wherever you need the same piece repeatedly: layer pads for a production run, protection panels for a fit-out, or backing boards for framing. Send us the finished size and quantity and we will quote it.
